A Taos Wedding

Jon and Sandy's beautiful wedding in Taos, New Mexico.

A little time to adore the babies.

Jon is a friend of ours from Dartmouth and was in the CS program with Ron.  He was one of our cabining/hockey/party buddies.  We were very excited to attend his wedding and to see his happiness with Sandy.  She seems fantastic.  The kids loved the music and the dancing.  We sat next to the swing band - very cool.  These dresses are now called the "dancing dresses" and Emily likes to put hers on and ask "Go dancing?"   There were a few other kids there and they all had fun playing together and posing for the camera.

BJ, Sherry and Sweet Adelie

BJ and Sherry came to Albuquerque for a visit on their way to Jon and Sandy's Wedding.  It was so nice to see them and their new little baby, Adelie.  She is the cutest baby with a big round bald head and bright blue eyes.  We went to the Petroglyphs.  It's only been a few years since we've been there but the urban sprawl was shocking to me.  I remember going out there when I was a kid and feeling like we were in the middle of nowhere.  We also took the Tram to the top of Sandia and attempted to walk the Crest Trail but our kids put a stop to that with their hungriness and grumping.

We all drove to Taos and found that the place we had reserved was a real dump.  After some calling around, Ron found other accomodations for us at the Indian Hills Inn which had a nice huge courtyard and swimming pool for the kids to play.  This tree in the courtyard was really cool.  It looked like it had 2 or 3 trunks mashed together to form one giant trunk.  The kids had fun collecting pine cones and making crowns from the branches of this giant tree.

The day before the wedding, we stopped by Jon and Sandy's B&B.  It was nice to chat with James, Jon and his family and to meet the lovely Sandy.

David Duchovny spotted us while he was in the swimming pool with his kids.  His wife, Tea Leoni, was in the lobby waiting for them while we were waiting for the shuttle to take us to the wedding. They haven't seen us since.

Happy Birthday Megan!

We spent the weekend at Red River.  We had wanted to leave early but we actually didn't get on the road until about 5:30pm and then we still hadn't decided where to go.  I lost my campsite book so we stopped by Page One to pick up a new one.  Then, after consulting with TJ about a closer campground, we decided to head further to Red River.   We got to there well after dark and set up the camper.  The next day, we spent a couple hours in Red River.  We went to Go Cart City and then got some snow cones.  Megan picked a birthday cake flavored snow cone that really did taste like frosting!  We visited Fun City which really wasn't all that fun.  It was a weird place that almost looks abandoned and was filled with ancient arcade games but the kids seemed not to notice.  I wonder how long that place has been there?  We also found the building that Ron's grampa built which now houses a bait/trinket shop.  It was cool to see the similarities in that building and the family cabin.

We sang Happy Birthday to Megan by fishing pond, opened her presents and ate the cupcakes she had picked out.  She fished for a while with Dad but didn't catch anything.  Ron caught the trout Andrew is holding and they brought it back to cook.  Andrew, Megan, Emily and Dad shared it so they all got about 2 bites each.  We ate lots of smores and had a great time.  The girls liked gathering twigs for the fire and building birthday cakes with twig candles.  I read Twilight which turned out to be a funner read than I expected.

The campground near Red River was very busy and the road at night was loud.  Most of the campgrounds are just off the Enchanted Circle route.  The Enchanted Circle is an OK drive.  It circles Wheeler Peak, I think.  The drive from Angel Fire to Mora is beautiful.  It's a small road that travels along a creek and it was very shady, lush and green.

Build a Bear Birthday

Megan decided to take a couple of friends (Ariana and Estelliana) to Build a Bear for her birthday.  They had a great time chosing their new friends and dressing them up.  Her bunny has become one of her favorite toys and it goes just about everywhere with her.  After the Build a Bear excursion, we came back home and decorated cupcakes for the birthday cake.  It was a pretty interesting looking cake, held together by chopsticks, but it served it's purpose as we all sang Happy Birthday to Megan!

About Megan at 6 years old:  Megan has such a gentle soul.  She loves her family and especially loves playing with her baby sister.  They play outside in the doll house, ride bikes and swing together.  She's extremely generous and likes to give gifts and make things for mom.  She can spend hours playing Polly Pocket or dressing up her dolls but can still rough it up with Andrew.  She just learned how to swim but she still needs a little more confidence.  She's proud that she likes vegatables.  She surprised her teacher by how social she is because her teacher thought Andrew's little sister was a quiet one.  She likes "kids cook" (helping with dinner) and washing dishes by hand.  She still loves to wear dresses and skirts although she wears long pants about half the time now.  She has almost perfected her cartwheel.  Her favorite colors are purple and blue.  She is not an early riser.  She learned from someone (hopefully not me) how to roll her eyes at people.    She can climb the rope in the gymnasium and swing on the monkey bars till the cows come home.  We love you, Megan!

Fourth of July

We had a fun party at home for the Fourth of July.  It was drizzling off and on so we were all crowded onto our little porch.  The kids played while we grilled and ate the yummy food people brought. The kids had a water balloon fight and then we lit some fireworks until the country club's show started.  We've been in this house for 6 summers and this was the first time we've seen the show from our backyard!

Reina and Emily trying to catch Reece's bubbles.  This is such a funny picture of TJ!

The kids have some sparkler fun and Granny puts on some mid-afternoon entertainment!! The kids love to play piano with her.  The boys are so cute hanging out of the wall to watch the fireworks.
